How do I manually update my Google Chrome browser extension?

Developers often update their browser extensions to add new features, improve reliability, and ensure a smooth experience.

Normally, your browser updates your extensions automatically. But if you need to manually check your extension version and update it, here is a step-by-step guide.

To check the version of an installed extension:

By default, your browser updates extensions automatically. You usually don't need to do this manually. However, it can be useful to know the version of an installed extension.

To find the version number in Google Chrome, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner, go to "More tools," then click on "Extensions."

This may be slightly different if you are using a different browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Arc.

  1. On the Extensions page, click "Details" for your extension.

  1. You will then see the installed version of the extension.

To manually update a Chrome extension:

Your browser should update extensions automatically, but sometimes this doesn't happen. This can be due to various factors beyond the control of the developers. The most common reason is that an update is still being rolled out.

If you want to check for updates manually, here's how:

  1. Click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner, go to "More tools," then click on "Extensions."

This may be slightly different if you are using a different browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Arc.

  1. At the top right of the page, enable the "Developer Mode" button. You only need to enable it temporarily; it will not affect your other extensions or web pages.

  1. A new set of buttons will appear on the left side of your screen. Click "Update" under the "Extensions" heading in the upper left corner.

  1. After clicking, wait about 30 seconds. If an update has been released, the version number of your extension may increase. When the updates are complete, disable "Developer Mode" at the top right of the page.
